DEMOPOLIS, ALA. – July 17, 2024 – Robertson Banking Company — a West Alabama institution with roots in Demopolis — has donated $30,000 to the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) Foundation to support development of an innovative residential, state-wide, healthcare specialty high school in the rural city.
ASHS, which is expected to open in the 2026-27 academic year, is in a major fundraising push to coincide with an impending groundbreaking and with recruitment of an executive director and volunteer board members for both the foundation and school.
Already, a major national foundation and the State of Alabama have provided financial support to the school.

ASHS will offer a STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math and medicine) based curriculum focused on healthcare. Through partnerships with regional and statewide health systems, educational institutions and communities, it will serve to alleviate the critical rural healthcare workforce shortage in Alabama while providing skilled professional training for in-demand jobs to low-income youth.
About the ASHS Foundation
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences Foundation is a charitable, 501c3 organization with the sole purpose of providing both financial and educational support for the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, scheduled to open in the fall of 2026. This residential, specialty high school, part of the Alabama public school system, will offer curricula, instruction and work-based training focused on the health sciences to prepare students for career-readiness in the healthcare industry. Among the chief purposes of the school is to alleviate the rural healthcare workforce shortage in Alabama.
